If you go to a electronic shop and buy a couple of decimal to BCD switches, they have a window with numbers 0-9 and they could be either thumbwheel or click up/down operated. They are so small that you can put them together for as many numbers you need and they could fit at the top of the speedo on the flat surface. When you fill it up you just put the switches to the sama as on the speedo and then you just have to recalc the distans in between theese two to get the travel distans. I think this is much cheaper than any electronic tach and you can easily integrate it anywhere.
